Your Dream Closet: Save or Splurge?

Shopping is fun but it can be expensive too.. today I’m helping you decide when to splurge & when to save to build your dream wardrobe!

When I was little my mom always told me ‘Always dress your best’ that was a lot easier done when I was a child and clothes were not expensive! After years of wanting to look my best I can only blame thank my mother for my shopping problem! Spending countless hours online each day, I easily rack up large online shopping carts. I add, add, add and then go back and decide which I really need? Which is a splurge & where should I save? I’m here today to share my little formula with you guys!

My favorite things to splurge on are shoes and purses. Followed up with denim, sunglasses and outerwear. Lastly I will splurge on clothes if they’re versatile, for a special occasion or something I just really can’t stop thinking about.

I purchased this embroidered Free People dress before fashion week. I loved the berry color and knew it would be gorgeous this Winter. It’s a little bit more of a splurge than a save but it’s perfect because it can dress up or down & would work for Fall/Winter weddings as well. It comes in 7 gorgeous colors but size down, it runs big!

I can easily justify splurging on shoes and bags because I know I will wear them over and over. They pair with multiple outfits and if you are buying a good quality shoe or bag they will last for seasons to come. I received this LV Neverfull tote as a gift for my 21st birthday & it’s definitely a splurge. I think there is a middle ground with bags.. if you are looking for a designer bag with amazing quality & a smaller price tag I recommend a Tory Burch Perry Tote or a Gigi NY Teddie Tote. Both are amazing quality and hold many items. They are perfect for traveling, school or the office. If you are looking for an adorable tote with a microscopic price tag I would recommend this one from Forever 21. It will most likely not hold up season after season but it won’t break the bank. I don’t believe all shoes are worth the splurge, but in my opinion boots are every time.

For Fall I’m loving a gorgeous Over the Knee Boot. For a couple of years now I’ve been coveting Stuart Weitzman OTK boots but now you can get the same look at a lower price (think middle ground like the Tory or Gigi Tote).. I’m loving these and theseThe Steve Madden ‘Gorgeous’ pair are 99% identical to the Stuart Weitzman pair & so comfy. If you are still unsure about OTK boots and want to try a pair out before committing I recommend these from Forever 21, they are so cute and under $45. Not only is a great pair of black OTK boots necessary, I also suggest a brown pair. I splurged on these Suede OTK Boots & I am SO happy with my decision. When they first came in I was nervous because they were super tight, but after calls to my mom (& grandma) and multiple Google searches I realized suede stretches! These boots are actually perfect because no matter how small or big your leg is the suede fits perfectly to it. They are true over the knee boots and you can wear them all day without having to reach down and pull them up. This pair is similar with a much smaller price tag.

Building your dream closet may sound like a lot of work but if you build with the essentials, you will have the perfect slate for mixing & matching and always having an adorable outfit! That’s something even my Mama would be happy about!

I hope everyone has a happy Friday & a great weekend! I’m currently sick on the couch, wahh, but using this time to catch up with my Pretty Little Liar besties.. Aria, Hannah, Spencer, Emily & Allison.
