An updated skincare routine is long overdue. My last update was a year and a half ago when I shared my Winter Skincare Routine after I just overcame a long battle with hormonal acne. Since then, my routine has changed some, while sticking to the basics. I decided it was time to share my updated Summer Skincare Favorites.
While I still get the occasional pimple, I’ve made some lifestyle choices that I think majorly helped my skin and hormonal acne. If you are currently struggling with hormonal acne, I highly suggest heading to your OBGYN for a full blood panel. I was able to learn so much about my body during this screening. In addition, I began taking this supplement. I definitely notice a difference when I am not taking it and my skin is not as clear. I also recently stopped eating gluten and while my skin initially broke out, it cleared up immensely about 3 weeks later. I get SO many compliments on it now.
While I am a tad lazy with my skincare in the Summer, I’ve found my tried & true holy grail products that I just cannot get enough of!
SUMMER SKINCARE FAVORITE PRODUCTS:
wash // I love this Eminence Probiotic Skin Cleanser. Eminence is organic and a great price point. The description from the site states: A clarifying cleanser for acne-prone skin Formulated with Cucumber Juice a skin revitalizer & toner. Helps reduce the appearance of skin pores while purifying skin. Contains BioComplex TM comprising antioxidants vitamins Coenzyme Q10 & Alpha Lipoic Acid Helps minimize the appearance of wrinkles & correct the appearance of skin. Blended with Yogurt for exfoliating & hydrating benefits Infused with Sweet Almond Milk to moisturize & soften skin Leaves skin clear refined & healthy looking. I use it in the morning and night. Two to three times a week, I use this ZO by Obagi Exfoliating Polish. It’s a little bit pricier, but a very, very small amount goes a long way.
serums // I currently use two serums, Sunday Riley CEO Glow Vitamin C + Tumeric Face Oil and Eminence Organic Eight Greens Youth Serum. I usually do the Sunday Riley in the morning and I love how soft and glowy it makes my skin. The Greens Youth Serum is great for killing bacteria that causes acne.
moisturizers // Like my serums, I use different moisturizers for day and night. During the day, I swear by this Caffeinated Replenix Tinted Moisturizer. The caffeine tightens your skin, while the slight tint doesn’t really make you darker but just look more even-toned and glowy. SO GLOWY YALL! Plus, it has SPF 50, so you’re fully protected from the sun. At night, I like using this First Aid Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum, it’s light and moisturizing, without being too slimy or heavy. If I get a lot of sun or my skin feels extra dry, I like to sleep with this Watermelon Sleep Mask. It smells so good and makes your skin so soft and hydrated. For my undereyes, I SWEAR by this Nivea Eye Cream. It’s only $1 and is a miracle worker. I have a full post about it here.
spot treatments and masks // On occasion I like to do masks and spot treatments. I use two spot treatments for pimples religiously- in the day time I love this Beauty by Dr. Kay Spot Treatment. It dries clear so you can wear under makeup. It’s VERY powerful and you have to be careful not to get it in or near your eyes. I like to use a q-tip to apply. If you have severe acne, you can do a thin layer across your face. If needed, in the evening, I will use this Kate Somerville Eradicate Pimple Treatment. You just dab it on any blemishes, and they will be gone or almost gone the next morning. It’s amazing! About once a week or so, I will do this Eminence Probiotic Mask. Not only does it smell amazing, but it also makes my skin feel so smooth, plump and refreshed. It’s one of my favorite masks. If I ever have any dark spots, I use this Skinmedica Pigment Correcting Serum, while pricier it works wonders and a little goes a very long way.
tools // I have used two tools for over two years now and credit many of my skin changes to them. I have been a little lazy with them this Summer, but my August goal is to be more religious with using them! My PMD or Personal Microdermabrasion Device. This little device is the price of one or two facials ($159) but will give you endless results in your own home. Once a week, five minutes- all it takes for a clearer, more even, beautiful complexion. It’s like a little vacuum for your skin, it sucks out your pores and dead skin cells. I have a few posts about it that you can read here. Your other BFF is the GloPro. This is a personal micro-needling device that I use every other night. It’s also quick and easy to use, just about 3-5 minutes after washing your face before any of your other steps. The small needles help tighten pores, let products get deeper in your skin and increase collagen production. You can also read more about it here. I know you probably think I talk about these two a lot, but they really are miracle workers!
I know that seems like a lot, but it truly isn’t! The whole routine takes under 5 minutes each day and makes such a difference. Have you tried any of these Summer Skincare Favorites? I will be sharing a walkthrough on my Instagram (@RileySitton), be sure to follow along and check it out there. XO
