I’m so excited to finally share our finished Modern Farmhouse Nursery. It’s been so much fun to put together, and a much welcome distraction for being pregnant during a world pandemic. While not being able to shop much in stores, I still was able to find everything I wanted online and pull together our little boy’s nursery, the space of my dreams!

When I envisioned his space, I wanted something that was light, airy, clean and cozy but also fun, whimsical and playful. I knew I wanted an iron crib, so I started there as my base and worked the rest of the room around it. I love creating mood boards to see how things may look when they come to life – see the original nursery mood board here. While a few things ended up changing, it was a great way to organize what big pieces we needed and how they all came together.
Speaking of what we needed, I tried to keep things pretty minimal as far as ‘nursery must-haves’. I really wanted a clean modern farmhouse nursery and I felt crowded table tops and lots of things would make this cozy room too busy. A few items that we heard were must-haves and essential for our space: the Nanit Monitor, Hatch Sound Machine, a cozy spot to nurse, and the Newton breathable mattress.

In additional effort to keep things clean and minimal, I use drawer organizers in his top two drawers for all his diaper changing necessities. We also have a ton of closet space in his room and bathroom, so this definitely helped my mission! Even if you don’t have a ton of storage, opting for cute baskets is a great way to keep things looking cute while being functional. I’ll link some of the baskets we used below! I also added this shoe rack on the back of his door for all his swaddles. Not only is this easier to see and keep organized, but it gave us more drawer space as well.

For our changing table, I opted for a traditional dresser. Not only was I able to find something that was more the style I was hoping for, but it also was much cheaper than some changing tables I saw online. We looked at traditional changing pads, as well as waterproof ones but finally decided on this changing basket with washable changing pad inserts.

I couldn’t decide on a rocker or glider that we loved, but did fall in love with this swivel chair. It is down feather filled and SO comfortable. I was hesitant to not have a rocker, but my mom, stepmom and best friend all said they never used their’s. If we end up needing to purchase one down the road, that’s ok but for now we’re trying this. Also in this corner, I added some white ledge shelves with a few pieces that have a story behind them – books from my grandmother’s house, RJ’s first baseball mit and dried flowers from when we found out I was pregnant. I can’t wait to read books to him in this little corner!

The final spot in our modern farmhouse nursery, and probably the most important is sweet Baby Foster’s crib. As someone who suffers from horrible anxiety, I wanted to make sure I was making the safest decisions possible in all aspects, especially his sleeping. We opted for a few different things to (hopefully) keep him as safe as possible. First, we chose the Newton breathable mattress. This mattress is completely breathable and washable. It’s made with absolutely no foam, latex or adhesives, Newton is hypoallergenic, free of off-gassing and completely washable. The cover goes in the washing machine and the core in the tub/ shower to wash. I’ll show some stories on Instagram of how this works, so be sure to check it out!
We also opted for the Nanit monitor to keep an eye on our little one and the Owlet breathing sock, to help us feel better about his safety. Of course we wont have anything in the crib with him while he is sleeping, but until he’s old enough to be up here, we have some decor in the crib.
