How I Became a Morning Person

March 8, 2017

/ girl talkuncategorized

Everytime I write a post on here that I never thought I would write, I imagine my mom laughing her head off when she sees that I’m giving advice on topics such as ‘How I Became a Morning Person’ or ‘How I Stay Organized’. See I was never a morning person. I take after Dad, we could stay up working until 4 in the morning and that used to produce my best work. It doesn’t really fit into real adult life, so sadly I had to leave that sleep schedule in college.

Would you believe now, I wake up at 5?! Seriously I never ever thought I could do it. It was a long process, but I finally became a morning person! I had a few requests for a morning routine and I thought it would be helpful. Now that I’m a morning person, I feel more productive, my nights feel more relaxing and I feel more put together. It’s definitely been worth it in my book.

It all starts the night before. I don’t like to do anything in the morning that I don’t have to do. So I pack my lunch, get my bag together, lay out my clothes for the next day, etc. I also like to review my planner to make sure I don’t need to pack anything special or do anything right when I wake up. I also like having a good idea of my day.

Wake Up. My alarm goes off bright and early. It  a l w a y s  takes me a minute to get up. If it’s a good day, RJ will bring me a cup of coffee to bed and that helps me wake up faster. If not, I really dread getting up to get my own coffee (I still don’t understand why we don’t keep Keurigs on our nightstands ha!).

After getting my cup of coffee, I love to spend at least 10 minutes back in bed with my coffee and the pups. I really enjoy snuggling with the pups, especially if I have a long day. RJ has an Amazon Dot on his nightstand and Alexa will give you a short news briefing, I usually listen to her while I scroll through Instagram, respond to any texts I missed or take Snapchats of the pups. This is also when I roll my face with my ice roller (more on that later this week)!

After my ten minutes is up, I head to the bathroom to wash my face.

I have been struggling with some skin issues for almost a year now. I’ve seen multiple doctors, dermatologists, everyone. Nothing helped. I started using Murad about two weeks ago and I’ve never loved my skin more. I am planning a full post on it next month once I’ve used more of it, but I cannot tell you enough how great it is. I use this full set in the morning + this toner.

Even if you’re not struggling with your skin, I still encourage you to look at all their products here. They have ones for anti aging, healthy skin, and more + the whole set only takes about 5 minutes which is a plus in my book. I really want to try the eye lifting treatment next.

After washing my face in my bathroom, I do my hair and make up at my vanity. I like the lighting in my bedroom so much better than my bathroom. I won’t go into too much detail about this process (I’ll save that for a later date! I just wanted to show you this little trick that helps me clean up in a flash. I keep that cute little pom pom bucket in my night stand with my hair dryer, straightener, curling iron and brushes. It’s super easy to grab and even easier to throw everything back in there when I’m running late.

And I had to share my FAVORITE eye pads. I wear them while I’m doing my hair. Once you take them off, gently pat the serum into your under eye. They’re life changing and so cheap.

(If I’m working out I won’t get ready until afterwards.)

After getting dressed, before I go work out. I always, always, always make my bed. I don’t know why but I love to make my bed. I feel like it’s the official start of the day and it seals the deal that I won’t crawl back into bed. Also, it’s so great coming home and the house being tidy after a long day!

I’ll then head to work out, I love working out in the morning before breakfast. If I’m feeling a little hungry I’ll grab a scoop of peanut butter or a hard boiled egg.

My favorite morning workout is 6 am barre or running sprint intervals outside, I’m really looking forward to daylight savings change so I can run outside (I haven’t been since it’s usually still dark out).

Finally, I come home from my workout and grab my green juice and mix it with this powder. I will be explaining more about it later this week but it’s a huge part of my morning so I couldn’t skip it! It’s usually around 7 and I will start my day, doing whatever work is needed. I will normally eat breakfast around 9 am, my juice holds me over until then.

I hope you’ve enjoyed a little peek into my morning! It’s not always fun, but I always feel better when I start off on the right foot. Working out in the morning helps me feel so prepared and ready to take on the day. I also love that I can come home after work, cook and hang out with RJ without the guilt of skipping a workout.

If you’re trying to become a morning person I would focus on these things:

  • Preparation. Prepare everything you can before hand so that you can be relaxed in the morning not running around like crazy! (And go to bed early, duh!)
  • DO NOT SNOOZE. Snoozing will mess up your whole day. In my opinion, it’s better to set my alarm 15 minutes earlier and have a slow, lazy wake up then snooze, snooze, snooze and be rushed.
  • Give yourself something to look forward to. I know this sounds silly but I look forward to my coffee creamer, I finally found one I love and can’t wait for my warm cup of coffee every morning!
  • Get in a Routine. And stay in your routine. I know it’s tempting to sleep in super late on the weekends, but that throws off your whole week! I try to sleep no later than 8 on the weekends, and usually my body won’t let me sleep later than that anyways.
  • Be Happy! Always try to see the positive side when you’re grumpy in the morning (don’t worry we’ve all been there). I always tell myself.. I’m lucky I woke up today, I’m lucky I slept in a bed last night, I’m lucky I have coffee to drink, I’m lucky I have a job to go to. It always makes me feel better and silly for being so grumpy about being up early.

Do you have any tips I need to try?!

I love this! I changed myself into a morning person too. Making my bed is my favorite. This is going to sound cheesy, but I try to wake up and always say (sometimes outloud, sometimes in my mind) something that I am thankful for. I have a friend who I have texted with for years now and we try to daily send our thankful texts. It sets my mood for the day and changes my perspective. Our reality truly is based on our perspective. I also love doing devotions in the morning. Here's to us gals who love coffee, 'are beds, and mornings!!

Soaking up everyday is easy with this sweet boy. He’s pretty much all smiles as long as the attention is all on him. He really loves eating, babies and Doodle. He’s scooting and already trying to get into everything. Lucky for us, so far he pretty much just goes in circles. His first tooth popped through and he has a little bit of very blonde hair. ⁣
