In honor of National Pizza Day this Sunday (February 9th) and Valentine’s Day next week, I wanted to update an old post to include some fun date night ideas to try! One of our favorite date nights at home is a DIY Pizza Night. It’s fun, cheap and easy – perfect for a romatic Valentine’s Day at home or just any night of the week.

I think a DIY Pizza Night is so much fun because it’s EASY and delicious. RJ is not a chef by any means, but he can definitely make his own pizza. We can each customize exactly what we want, have fun and not spend $100 like we do some date nights out on the town. Two years ago, we had a DIY Pizza Night after a trip to Trader Joe’s – but I’ve found all the same products at local grocery stores (Walmart, Publix, etc.). So, don’t be discouraged when you see the TJ products in the photos.
I will say, Trader Joe’s has a fresh pizza dough that can be shaped into any shape pizza – the heart is perfect for Valentine’s Day, but you can also find pizza crusts at any store! If you want to make your DIY Pizza Night a little healthier, I usually grab a Cauliflower Pizza Crust! This Caulipower Crust is my favorite. Their pre-made pizzas are also delicious, even my picky picky Grandma loves them!
Besides your crust, for your DIY Pizza Night you’ll need:
- Sauce – we love a classic tomato sauce and pesto but you could also try buffalo, alfredo or even an olive oil base.
- Cheese – my all-time favorite is goat cheese, but rj is a fan of traditional mozzarella. Try different combos to find your favorite!
- Toppings – RJ keeps his simple with just pepperonis, but the options are endless. I’ve included a few of our favorite combos below!
A few of my all-time favorite DIY pizzas:
–Pesto, Sliced Tomatoes, a little cheese & garlic. After you cook, top with arugula and lemon juice.
-Pesto, Goat Cheese & Fig
-Artichoke Hearts, Spinach, Tomatoes, Roasted Red Peppers, Garlic and Feta
-Pesto, Shrimp, Avocado
-Chicken, Broccoli & Spinach
When we were engaged, we loved making these Naan Bread Pizzas. It was so fun to look back at our old nights, dreaming of married life & fighting over what’s for dinner (nothing has changed ha!). DIY Pizza nights are my favorite. They are so easy and fun. RJ isn’t a big chef, so this is the best way to get him involved in the kitchen. I also love that there are so many cheap and healthy options! If you try any of these or new combos, please let me know what you think!
