Dinner at Main Street Meats

August 12, 2018

/ chattanoogastyleuncategorized

Last Thursday, I had a huge itch to get out of the house. I had been working at my computer all day and the thought of dinner and just staring at the TV screen made me, well want to scream. Some nights, I’m exhausted and playing the Wheel of Fortune with Hubs is all I want – but tonight.. I wanted out!

I texted RJ and told him we could go to dinner somewhere or we could starve to death, naturally, he picked starve. Then he texted again –Dos Bros? Our weekly go to. Instead. we decided to try a new restaurant and ended up at Main Street Meats in Southside.

Yall, OMG. How have we not eaten here before? First, the atmosphere is intimate, trendy and adorable. It reminded me a lot of the Meatball Shop, RJ’s favorite NYC restaurant. In addition to the restaurant, they house a small butcher shop + a few local canned goods and treats. If you’re visiting Chattanooga, you could easily grab a few things to take home with you after dinner!

We started with the cheese board. If we do say so ourselves, we’re quite the cheese connoisseurs. We have sampled cheese boards all over Italy and parts of France. It’s one of our favorite (and most fattening) hobbies. RJ said Main Street Meat’s cheese board came in high in his cheesy ranking and I agree it was very good. We had two hard cheeses and one soft, I’m more of a softie so I would have been a tad happier if we had more of the soft options (I’m not positive but this selection might rotate). We paired our cheeseboard with two of their cocktails- EVERYTHING NICE ON ICE, Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka, Cocchi Rosa, Lemon, Strawberry Shrub, Bubbles (mine) and HOMEGROWN: Chattanooga Whiskey Reserve, Mexican Coke, Salted Peanuts (RJ’s). Both delicious. Mine was a tad sweet, but nothing overboard. It was the perfect mix of sweet and tart, exactly what you hope for on a Summer evening. RJ’s drink was served in an old fashioned coke bottle, how adorable?!

For our main food, I went with the salad. It was Grilled Chicken, Watermelon, Squash, Frisee, Brebis (a cheese similar to goat’s cheese but made with sheep’s milk), Asparagus, Cucumber, Cabernet Vinaigrette and Sesame. It was phenomenal. Light yet filling, refreshing, a perfect mix of flavors. It was huge too! I ended up bringing half of it home but I was sad I couldn’t eat it all, it tasted so good. One of my favorite salads in Chattanooga, if not my all-time favorite. RJ got the New York Strip with Mashed Potatoes and he said it was the best steak he’s had here. He ate all of it, I stole a bite and even though I’m not a steak person, it was tender and flavorful.

The couple next to us ordered the Peaches n Cream dessert and I was so sad I was full, it looked incredible.

All in all, we give it a 10/10. It was a little pricey, but we think the prices fit the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere. Honestly, writing this post made me sad because I’m already ready to go back and we just ate there tonight!
