If you’re a soon to be Mama, you probably don’t realize your diaper bag is about to be your BFF. Well at least I didn’t. Sadly, my closet full of beautiful handbags has taken a backseat to these two bags below. I’m not complaining, just realizing that I will probably not reach for a purse again for quite some time. Since I never leave the house without one, or both, of these babies – I thought I should show you why I love them and how I keep them stocked/organized/ready to be my right hand man! Let’s dive into some diaper bag essentials for the first three months of life!

I searched for a long time for a diaper bag I loved. While I know tons of people are big fans of the Fawn Diaper Backpack, my best friend included. I just wanted something different. My original plan was to have my Louis Vuitton Neverfull painted with Foster’s initials and use it but then I fell in love with the idea of this Kanken Backpack. It is small, yet holds a ton. Easy to throw on my shoulder and fun! I added these monogram patches, well Natalie’s mom sewed them on for me, and it’s exactly what I wanted!
When I saw this large tote with a large monogram, I was instantly in love. I ordered it right away, knowing it would be great to have a large option for long days or travel. The quality is incredible, it holds a ton and arrived the day before I was induced with Foster. It was meant to be! My one mistake was ordering too quickly and not getting the one with a zipper but it’s not the end of the world. There are a ton of different patterns, options, monogram sizes, etc. I truly cannot recommend this bag enough!
I think the most important thing I’ve learned in terms of diaper bag tricks, is having a ‘Mama Clutch’. I use this Louis Vuitton Toiletry Bag and it’s probably my most used designer item, even before baby. It’s sturdy, holds a bunch and can be thrown in any large purse or carried as a clutch. It fits so well in the backpack but also easy to pull out if I’m running somewhere alone or need to move it to a different bag.
Now that you see the three bags I swear by, let me show you how I keep them organized + our diaper bag essentials!

The backpack is the diaper bag we take almost every time we leave the house. I don’t want to overload it with diaper bag essentials and make it super heavy or cluttered – the key is being well organized! I use this Felt Purse Insert and it’s the perfect size to fit in the bottom of the bag. In here I keep diapers, wipes, disposable changing pads, plastic bags to throw away diapers on the go and our favorite diaper rash ointment. In the front pocket, I keep an extra onesie rolled up and an extra pacifier.
On top of the organizer, I put my LV Clutch. It also is the perfect size for this backpack without taking up too much space. In here I keep my necessities – hand lotion, sanitizer, keys, my card holder, etc. This fits nicely on the back of the backpack, giving me room to throw in milk, a bottle or anything else we may want to take!
The large tote stays in our mudroom for easy access. I keep it pretty bare, but ready to go if needed. If I decide to take this one for the day I can quickly grab the felt organizer and my clutch, throw it in and be ready to hit the road! In addition to those two items, I also keep a blanket in here and his medical records for emergencies.
Two other things we typically don’t leave without is burp cloths and a blanket, however I have both in my car/stroller so they don’t take up too much additional space.
