I’m not going to lie, I hate wearing makeup. Yes, every once in a while I like to get dolled up and playing with makeup but for the most part, I love rocking makeup free skin. One year ago though, this wasn’t possible for me. My skin was awful. I have been spending the year working on my skin and I’m more than happy to share these five easy, achievable steps to the dewy, glowy skin you’ve always dreamed of!
5 Steps for Makeup Free Skin:
Makeup Free Skin: A Consistent Skin Care Routine.
Having a good skin care routine is important but being consistent is even more so. I wash my face every morning and night with Dr. Kay Acne System. It’s a 4 step system that seriously works wonders. I have a full post about it here, with before and afters of how awful my skin was. Since I have gotten my skin under control, I’ve been able to loosen up on my routine some. In the mornings, I just do the face wash and a moisturizer. In the evening, I do the full system (not everything pictured above, just the four Dr. Kay Products). Honestly, I’ve trimmed down my routine quite a lot and I’m still seeing great results as long as I stay consistent.
Makeup Free Skin: Work from the Inside, Out.
Vitamins! Not only will they make up feel good, but they’ll make you look good. As you’ll notice in this post, I’ve been trying to streamline and simplify my life. This included my vitamins. I love HUM nutrition, but I have to take 4 other prescription pills every day, I just realistically couldn’t keep up with taking 8+ pills every day. That’s when I met Ritual Vitamins this one pill, designed for women is vegan, non-GMO and has a minty taste! It has 9 simple ingredients for everything you need and nothing you don’t. It’s been a game changer and I actually look forward to taking it every evening.
Makeup Free Skin: Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate.
Hydration is a MAJOR key to glowy, dewy skin. It’s important to hydrate both your skin and your body. First, I try to drink at least 60 ounces of water a day (or half your body weight). I do this by keeping a liter water bottle and refilling it once. This will help clear up your skin, help with undereye puffiness and keep you glowing! Not to mention, it will make you feel great too. Water is the answer to all your life problems I swear! I also like to hydrate my skin. When I was first addressing my acne, I thought hydration was the enemy! Boy, was I wrong. Now I realize that hydrating your skin helps keep it clear, soft, plump and glowy. I swear by this $25 Water Sleep Mask. I put it on after my moisturizer 2-3 times a week and go to sleep. It’s like little miracle working elves spend the night giving you a million facials, I swear.
Makeup Free Skin: Your Dream Team.
Meet your dream team. These two little devices will change your skin forever. No matter what skin care routine you use, these will amplify your results x 100000. Let’s start with the PMDor Personal Microdermabrasion Device. This little device is the price of one or two facials ($159) but will give you endless results in your own home. Once a week, five minutes- all it takes for a clearer, more even, beautiful complexion. It’s like a little vacuum for your skin, it sucks out your pores and dead skin cells. I have a few posts about it that you can read here. Your other BFF is the GloPro. This is a personal micro-needling device that I use every other night. It’s also quick and easy to use, just about 3-5 minutes after washing your face before any of your other steps. The small needles help tighten pores, let products get deeper in your skin and increase collagen production. You can also read more about it here. I know you probably think I talk about these two a lot, but they really are miracle workers!
Makeup Free Skin: Eyes on the Prize.
Caring for the area around my eyes is major in helping me not look like a zombie when I go sans makeup. The first step is my undereye. I have two undereye creams for daytime that I swear by but I still can’t figure out my favorite moisturizing eye cream for nighttime (If you have recs, PLEASE let me know). Both of my undereye products are splurges and I’m sorry they are not more affordable! My eyes are my problem area so I prefer spending a little more. I use this Giorgio Armani Eye Crema right after moisturizing my face. The smallest dab does serious miracles under your eye. It helps tighten skin, smooth out wrinkles and reduce puffiness. I swear, I’ve never seen a product work as well as this one. If I’m going out with just my makeup free skin, I like to follow up with a pin size dab of this Tata Harper Illuminating Eye Cream. It is also pricey but one bottle has lasted me a year and I have looked and looked for a dupe to find nothing similar. It contains dust of actual diamonds that give you a natural, illuminating glow that lasts all day. In fact, my friends often don’t believe I’m ‘makeup free’ because of how glowy this makes my skin look. If I ever find dupes for these two, I will DEFINITELY let you know.
In addition to under eyes, you gotta think above the eyes! Lashes and brows will majorly help with looking fresh and awake. I’ve had my eyebrows microbladed and love it. It seriously helped change my face shape and keep me looking more put together, even when I’m not. Read all about my experience with microblading here. If you’re not looking for such a permanent solution, eyebrow tinting is also an incredible option! It’s like a spray tan for your brows. The quick and cheap process includes shaping your brows, tinting them with a semi-permanent dye and a lot of happiness. It lasts a month and makes a major difference.
What are some tips for when you rock makeup free skin? I love experimenting with new beauty regimens for you guys. XO
