This month, I am gifting you my 'Pick Your Poison' bar cart graphic. All you have to do is sign up for the newsletter (click here). I will mail it out again this month + instructions on how to download & print.

Hope you have a great weekend!! I'm going to start decorating for Halloween and I'm SO excited. Be sure to follow along on Instagram for sneak peeks (@YesPleaseDaily). xo

Blogger not Billionaire -- Starting & Maintaining a Blog without Financial Stress

Wednesday, September 27, 2017

One of my FAQ topics is blogging. I 10000% understand why. It's a mysterious industry, with no set 'rules' on how to grow, etc. You can search the web for days but everything will tell you different things. Not to mention, some bloggers are very tight lip on their 'secrets for success'.

Like everything in life/on my blog, I try to be very transparent. If I'm going to share my life on here, I'm going to share it unfiltered (ok well maybe my photos are a little filtered 😉). This topic has always weighed heavily on my mind and also played a huge role in the path my blog took, so I finally decided it was time to discuss.

I've been hesitant because tone can be hard to read on a screen and I never want this post to come across the wrong way. Like almost anything on here, this is what I practice, what works for me and what boundaries I had to set for myself. This is in no way judging anyone or saying this is the only way to do things.

Today I'm talking about the financial side of blogging. How to start and maintain a blog without going broke, into debt or killing your mental health.

It's no secret that the comparison game is strong in blogging. It's so easy to get caught up in who's wearing what, who has this, the newest purse, newest shoes, etc. etc. Style is constantly changing and when you see the top tier of bloggers never repeating an outfit, it's easy to feel that you need to be that way too.

Or at least I felt that way.

When this little site began, I thought I wanted to be a fashion blogger. But I didn't know, most of the higher level fashion bloggers were not only receiving clothes for free, they were also being paid to wear them.

I was spending every ounce of my paycheck after bills, on clothes. Clothes that I didn't need, only purchased to be photographed in. I use LiketkIt to make my Instagrams shoppable and readers like to see exact items linked. That means when something sells out I felt the need to buy something newer. i.e.. I had an adorable pair of nude wedges that I loved but were no where to be found online, I actually sold them so I could buy a different newer pair that could be linked! Looking back this was crazy!!

I did set one limit for myself however, I promised never to get a credit card. [Again, this is NO judgement on anyone who has a credit card. I just know myself and knew I couldn't be tempted with one. I am not good with money AT ALL. So having an extra way to spend money == TROUBLE] Looking back, I'm so happy I did this. When I was younger and so desperate to be a fashion blogger, I know I would have gotten myself into big trouble.

I was honestly going crazy, shopping yet barely even wearing most items. It was straining me financially and starting to cause tension between RJ & I (he's great with money which is so helpful now that we're married haha!). He could see I was spreading myself so thin. I knew something had to change.

That's when I took a step back and realized, I was going about this all the wrong way! I was trying so hard to be something I wasn't, when I had all this awesome content that y'all would much rather see. This is when I took a step over into Lifestyle territory.

Ok, so all this to say! If you're looking to start a blog & don't have a billion dollars to spend, or maybe even an extra $500 a month to spend.. IT IS POSSIBLE! Here's my tips on how..

--Stay in Yo Lane! Pick a niche that already fits your life. If you only travel once a year, don't pick travel blogging unless you know you'll have the funds to travel enough for how often you want to post. I can easily share food, home, DIY, and what I share on here because I am already doing those things! Yes, I still spend a little more than before but not hundreds more each month. I can still throw style in here and there (or travel or whatever) but it's not my primary focus.

-- Set limits and boundaries. If you know your blog will have expenses, set a limit each month and stick to it. This will help you feel better about spending to know you haven't gotten in over your head.

--Don't compare yourself to others! This is so important in every aspect of blogging and life! Stay positive and work on yourself. Be happy for yourself, be happy for others. Every blogger was most likely in your spot at some point. You just are on different timelines and no ones timeline is correct!

--Capture vs. Create. One of my main things I share is recipes. I used to buy food solely for the purpose of shooting and it was such a waste of food and money. Capture vs. create is huge. Capture things as they're happening! I always shoot when I'm making the meal, it takes a little bit longer but it saves a ton.

--Do it Yourself! Many sites claim that it takes thousands to start a blog but this is untrue. I started this with $11 a year (buying my domain). Later I bought a new site template (~$30) and taught myself how to code. Google and late nights are your BFF. iPhone cameras are killer these days, so really you don't even need a fancy schmancy camera from the get go. Teach yourself a few photography skills, buy a bluetooth remote or grab a buddy and get shooting! I promise it can be done. :)

I hope these tips help some, starting a blog can be so overwhelming! I love getting specific questions from you guys so please always feel free to reach out. Follow along on Instagram (@YesPleaseDaily) for more fun. xo

Vegetarian Buffalo Bowls

Monday, September 25, 2017

Mondays are my favorite for sharing easy lil' recipes for y'all (still so delicious though don't worry!). This Monday I'm combining allll the things.. easy recipe + meatless Monday + heat & eat goodness to bring you my new favorite dish!

Meet my Vegetarian Buffalo Bowls!

These babies were born on a day when we were low on groceries, but had a few of my favorites in the freezer. I try to keep Cauliflower Rice and Buffalo Chickpea patties in the freezer all the time, I decided they would make a good combo and luckily had a ripe avocado and Greek Yogurt Cilantro Avocado dressing to pull it all together. Topped with a sprinkle of Feta, this dish has officially become on of my favorites.

The only downside of this dish is that I haven't found a way to take it with me to work, but it makes the perfect quick lunch or easy dinner that's still healthy, flavorful and cheap. #OhYesPlz

Vegetarian Buffalo Bowls
Serves 1
Easy

Ingredients:
1 Morning Star Buffalo Chickpea Patty
1 Cup of Cauliflower Rice (Frozen)
1/2 Avocado
Avocado Cilantro Greek Yogurt Dressing (As much as you please, you can also use a different type of creamy dressing if you're not a cilantro fan!)
Sprinkle of Feta Cheese

Directions:
1. Prepare chickpea patty and cauliflower rice according to package
2. Dice avocado & chickpea patty
3. In a bowl, combine all the ingredients

Enjoy!

This dish is not spicy or hot at all! You could add extra buffalo sauce if you wanted more of a kick. It would also be good with some diced celery or onions if you like a crunch!

If you try this be sure to share on Instagram (@YesPleaseDaily) or repin on Pinterest! I'm not a vegetarian but I've been trying to eat less meat! My friend Nat even told me the other day that a day or two a week without any meat is Habits of Healthy People. So now I'm on a mission to find out. 😉 xo!

Happy Fall! [Fall Decor Photo Diary + a Few of My Fall Faves]

Friday, September 22, 2017

Happy Fall Y'all! Fall is my favorite season, it's so cozy, it's so fun and so much to celebrate!! My birthday is in October, our first Anniversary in November + Halloween, Thanksgiving and football games!! Seriously, I love it all!

Today I thought it would be fun to share a few iPhone snaps of how I decorated our house for Fall. RJ thinks I'm insane because I've already bought so many pumpkins and I keep texting him telling him we need to go pick up more. He doesn't get it, but boys never do! If you follow along on Instagram I'll be sure to share allll my pumpkin purchases. 😉 Most of my decor comes from Hobby Lobby, Home Goods, Target or Anthropologie! If you have questions about any specific item, comment below!

I'm also sharing a few items I'm loving for Fall at the bottom of this post! XO

Current Fall Faves:
This Lip Crayon Duo that I picked up from Sephora this week is everything. I was going to grab a lip crayon but couldn't decide which color, I noticed this duo was on sale for $20 and would allow me to try two smaller (but still good size) colors! I got the Damned/ Walkyrie combo. I wore it last night and had so many readers messaging me for the color! I'm so happy y'all are as obsessed as I am.

Slide on Mule Loafers! I'm having to practice major self control not to buy every pair of these I see. These are so cute and comfortable, they look good with dresses, jeans and even shorts until the weather cools down. I took a velvet pair to LA and I wore them almost every single day.

A few other shoes I'm loving for Fall are these Steve Madden Over the Knee Boots & these slip on sneakers with the cutest bow (^^I'm wearing them above).

Speaking of shoes, I can't get enough of Leopard Print Booties either. A fun pop of print for even your most basic outfit! These and these are my favorite.

I'm LOVING big bold tops, fun sleeves and unique cuts-- this asymmetrical top is so fun for a night out and this bell sleeve sweater is gorgeous with a price tag you'll love.

I have been adding pops of greenery all over our home and I love how fresh it looks! I get mine from Trader Joe's but if you don't have one in the area, you can order some here. I also order this little garland for our coffee table & this little stack of old books

Finally, rounding out my closet I've been stocking up on slip dresses! I love wearing them with tennis shoes and a jean jacket for a casual look or dressed up for a Fall wedding or date night! This velvet one is on my wish list and I love this short one that's on sale! I grabbed this one while in LA and I love it!

What are your current Fall faves?! I'm sure my wish list will grow as the weather starts to drop! I hope you enjoy your weekend. xo

Crockpot Pesto Chicken

Thursday, September 21, 2017

Yesterday at the grocery store I saw an old man face timing his wife to show her produce. I've never seen a more accurate glimpse into mine and RJ's future! 🤣 I am definitely the type of wife who doesn't trust RJ to pick out the right produce and RJ is definitely the sweet type of husband that would face time his wife to pick out the perfect produce.

Tomorrow is officially the first day of Fall and if there's one thing I love about Fall it's the food. Flavorful, rich, comfort food. Especially crockpot meals, the smell fills the whole house, the slow cooking soaks all the flavors together and it makes your meat so tender. Not to mention most crock pot meals are dump everything in and go, so it's a total win for everyone!

I'm a huge pesto gal, I've even experimented on making my own (check out my walnut arugula pesto here!). Once I convinced Hubs to try it and he realized he loved it too, it became a staple in our house! Recently I've paired it up with chicken and butternut squash 'noodles' for the easiest, most delicious dinner!

I love this dinner because I usually have all the ingredients in our pantry + it's light and healthy but still packs so much flavor.

Crockpot Pesto Chicken
Serves 2
Easy
Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Cook Time: 3-8 hours

Ingredients:
2 Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts (raw, thawed or frozen)
1/2 Cup of Pesto
1/2 Cup of Chicken Broth
1/4 Cup of Feta
Juice from 1 Lemon
Salt & Pepper to Taste

Directions:
1. Place chicken breasts in crockpot
2. Season with salt and pepper
3. Pour chicken broth and lemon juice into a crockpot
4. Spread pesto out on chicken, it's ok if some gets in the sauce
5. Top with feta
6. Cook on high for 3- 3 1/2 hours or low for 8 hours

Enjoy!

We love to eat ours with butternut squash noodles (I buy mine at Whole Foods or Fresh Market) or cauliflower rice. Whichever I choose, I place the chicken on top and spoon extra sauce from the crockpot over the noodles or rice, it's so good!

You know I love to see you guys bring my recipes to life! If you try this please tag me on Instagram (@YesPleaseDaily) and use the hashtag #OhYesPlz. You can also follow along on my Pinterest (Here!) for more recipes, decor and more! xo

Latest Book & TV Obsessions

Wednesday, September 20, 2017

I've mentioned before that reading is one of my all time favorite pastimes and if you follow me on Instagram, you've probably noticed RJ and I have a few shows that we watch religiously. I thought it would be fun to share an updated list of 'current obsessions' and see if you had any I needed to add to my must sees & reads.

B O O K S
One of my favorite (and almost the only genre I like) of books is a mystery. One that grabs me in and keeps me guessing until the very end. If it has an unexpected twist, I like it even more! I didn't want to explain each book too much and give away any details, but I've listed all my recent reads that I liked.

Recently read favorites:
All the Missing GirlsThe Couple Next Door | Into the Water *Not my favorite, but still decent I would only read this one if you've read all the others on my list!  | In a Dark, Dark Wood | Before I Go to SleepBehind Closed Doors | The Child | Eeny Meeny |

On my list to read next:
The Perfect Stranger | The Lying Game | The Breakdown | The Secret's You Keep | The Vanishing Year | Pretty Girls | A Stranger in the House |  [I've bought these two books, The Perfect Girl & The Good Girl, I started both and couldn't get into them but I've also heard people love them. Maybe add to the end of your list if you're desperate! Ha!]

W A T C H
Just like a good book, watching a show after work is one of our favorite ways to unwind. Unlike a book, I'm a fan of many genres-- comedy, thrillers, reality, you name it! Below are a few of our favorite shows, series and movies!

-The Good Place (comedy + a mystery): Kristen Bell stars in this hilarious and refreshing comedy about the afterlife, although being a horrible human she died and went to heaven. She spends her days trying to figure out how she got there. I don't want to say too much but there ends up being a quite a few twists and the perfect balance of comedy and mystery. Season 1 is out and season 2 starts tonight! You can catch up OnDemand or on Hulu.

-American Housewife (comedy): This show is funny, cheesy comedy. The 30 minute episodes are my favorite to watch before bed. Some situations on the show are extreme but still silly enough to keep you laughing. I think there's only 1 or 2 seasons of the show and you can also watch OnDemand or on Hulu.

-Shameless (dramedy): Get ready to binge! There are seven seasons of this hilarious show that also manages to give you the feels, make you angry and leave you wanting more. I first started watching this because RJ was and then I was hooked. Season 8 returns in November and I cannot, not wait. Catch up OnDemand or on Netflix

-Ozark (drama): We're still in the middle of this series, but it's a great one! Especially since both RJ and I enjoy watching it. This series is has the same vibes as Breaking Bad.

-The Sinner (drama): This is one were also still watching but on the last episode. A mini series that starts off with a bang, a housewife murdering a seemingly random man on a beach vacation.. the rest of the episode slowly reveal why. As the final episodes approach, things start to get weird/disturbing but still great. Watch on USA

-Big Little Lies (dramedy): I know I'm a little behind on this series, but I recently watched it (aka binged the whole season in 24 hours) and was obsessed. RJ even joined in for the last two episodes and loved it! Watch on HBO On Demand

As for movies, we recently went to see 'Mother' and it was horrible, not scary at all and very weird. It has a lot of symbolism behind it that we picked up on halfway through and it was intresting to see that. All in all we were wanting to see a scary movie so we were disappointed.

Besides these series it's our usual HGTV & Bravo binges hah! You can check out my first 'Weekend Reads' post here for more book ideas. I'm always looking to add to my lists, please let me know any suggestions you have! Fall is the perfect time to snuggle up with a good book or enjoy a Saturday Binge-athon. xo
