Five Ways to Make Your Bed Cozier this Fall

Monday, October 31, 2016

I don't know about y'all, but I would give anything to be crawling back into this bed right about now. One part of Fall I particularly love is the way I can snuggle up at night without waking up feeling like I'm in the Sahara desert.
I'm one of those people who love a soft bed. If I could sleep on a cloud, I think I would be the happiest girl in the world. During the Spring and Summer, I like to keep crisp white sheets and a light quilt on the bed but nothing makes me feel like a little kid on Christmas morning more than swapping out for the flannel sheets!
Maybe you're one of those people who loves to break out the Christmas decor the day after Halloween (Hey, I'm right behind you! Give me about a week and I'll have ours out!) or maybe you like to wait closer to December and really soak in all the Thanksgiving glory, no matter what your thing is you can start to get in the holiday spirit by cozying up your bedroom! I'm sharing some easy steps how for ya today + a few tricks on how to keep white bedding with two pups (or messy significant others, kids, or all of the above), Happy November babes!

Beware, you may never ever want to leave your bed! You can't blame me if snooze becomes your BFF.

1. Down Alternative Mattress Topper -- This is my favorite thing ever. We have a Temperpedic mattress which Babe loves but it's a tad too stiff for me. To keep it fair, we do the Temperpedic in the Spring and Summer, then the pillow top in the Fall and Winter.

2. Flannel Sheets -- Swap out your Summer sheets for these uber cozy, super festive flannel cuties.

3. Silk Pillow Cases -- I have the absolute most sensitive skin in the world. If I sleep on my arm or hand or anything that isn't my pillow case, I break out. I switched to silk pillow cases earlier this year and I've noticed the biggest difference in my skin + it helps my hair from breaking, helps hold my hair style, is better for your eyelashes and feels so luxurious. Babe got jealous and now he has one, too. Even Doodle sleeps on a silk pillow case now, I swear she's the most spoiled pup in the world!

4. Down Comforter + a Duvet Cover -- This is not only my favorite part but the trickiest!! I have mastered a few tricks over the years that help you mix white bedding + pups (or whatever hooligans you have at your house, messy bed eaters I'm looking at you!! JK I'm totally guilty of that, too). First, a down comforter is one of my favorite things I've ever owned. Something about the weight is so soothing, but at the same time it's so cozy. You must, must, must get a duvet cover. Not only does a duvet cover help you change up your style each season, it helps you keep your bed clean without washing your bulky comforter each week.
It's so, so hard having a white duvet cover but I love it. We have a red clay mud in our backyard and if it's even slightly damp outside, it gets all over the dogs' paws and all over the house. I've found that Costco brand detergent is the best at getting this stain (or any tricky stain) out of fabrics. No, this isn't sponsored I just had to share, it's my favorite! Sometimes a stain needs two washes but it says 'Whitest Whites' on the box and it ain't lyin'!
Lastly, there are few things I hate more than putting a duvet cover on a duvet.. seriously they need to invent a machine that does it for you! In the meantime, this YouTube video taught me a trick that has been a lifesaver.

5. Fall Candles -- A no brainer right?! This one is my favorite right now. I stick them everywhere this time of year! Nothing beats the sweet cinnamon smells that Fall brings, it reminds me so much of Thanksgiving dinner and baking cookies with my Mama.

I'm excited to share more ways on how we transition our home during the holidays. This year I'm all about easy, but not too simple since this is our first holiday season as a married couple! We will be spending Thanksgiving on our honeymoon, so I'm trying to decide if I want to decorate for Christmas before or after we leave. I think I'm leaning towards before!!

I cannot believe it's officially our wedding month! I'm so happy it's here, you have no idea. I hope you had a fabulous Halloween. We had a few trick-or-treaters and the pups loved it. I made Babe some delicious, soft and thick chocolate chip cookies. I'm so impressed with how they turned out, I'll be sure to share them here in a couple weeks. I don't think I'll ever be able to make cookies another way again.

World's Best White Chicken Chili: Our Family Recipe

Sunday, October 30, 2016

Boo! Happy Halloween! I love Halloween, I love October, I love Fall. I love how cozy it is, well at least normally cozy. This year it's 85 degrees but I'm not complaining. Fingers crossed the warm weather trend continues and it's in the 70's for our wedding, that would be the best wedding gift ever.
Even though it doesn't feel like Fall outside, I'm doing everything in my power to make it feel like Fall in our home.. Marshmellow Pumpkin Latte candles, pumpkins, and chili + soup on repeat.

Both my parents love to cook and I think that's where I got it from. I didn't always love it, but within the past three years it's quickly become one of my favorite hobbies. Something about creating new combos and pleasing everyone I feed just makes me so happy. This chili has been in my family for as long as I can remember. I have never met someone who doesn't like it, even my grandfather loves it and I swear he only eats Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches.

It has a distinct, delicious aroma while you're making it and once you've had it once you'll recognize its smell every time. I love it. It's not spicy, but if spice is your thing it welcomes hot sauce so nicely. It's slightly creamy but is amazing with cheese + sour cream (or greek yogurt) combo. It's seriously the perfect chili.

If I had one complaint, I wish it was crock pot but I'm working on converting it! If you have any ideas, let your girl know!! I thought this was the perfect recipe to kick off November, is anything better than a cozy November night with a holiday movie and warm bowl of chili?!

When I was making this chili last night, I kept thinking 'Surely I've shared this recipe before, it's one of our all time favorites and has been passed to all my friends.. I cannot believe I've never blogged it!'. I'm so happy to finally share it with you guys. It's so delicious the night you make it with a hot slice of French bread, but even better the next day if you have any leftovers (we usually don't, ha!).

White Chicken Chili
Serves 4-6

Ingredients:
2 cans of Shoe Peg Corn (Drained)
2 cans of Navy Beans (Undrained)
1/2 stick of Butter
1 tablespoon Minced Garlic
3/4 cup Onion (optional)
1 can chopped Green Chile Peppers
1/2 tablespoon Cumin
1 tablespoon Oregano
1 tablespoon of Pepper
Dash of Salt
1/2 bunch Cilantro
2 1/2 cups Chicken Broth
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup

Directions:
1. Boil chicken & shred/chop.
2. In a large pot, bring beans, corn, chicken broth and cream of chicken to a boil.
3. In a separate skillet, melt butter. Once melted, add green chiles, onions and garlic. Simmer for 5 minutes.
4. Add chile mixture, chicken and all spices to the pot of beans & corn.
5. Lower to medium and simmer for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

**Tips: If you have a Kitchen Aid Mixer, you can shred chicken with the paddle attachment! Just drain after boiling, place the chicken breasts in the mixer and watch the miracle! I swear this was life changing for us, we hated shredding chicken.

It's great by itself, but it is even better with a loaf of french bread, sour cream and cheese. I sometimes add avocado & Babe loves to top his with hot sauce! You could also do tortilla chips or Fritos, the possibilities are endless.
I have never met someone who doesn't like this chili, it's my go-to whenever we have company over. It makes your house smell like heaven and is always a hit. Our guests always leave asking for the recipe!

I don't know about y'all but I'm secretly happy that Halloween is on a Monday this year. We were able to celebrate this weekend, dressed as a fortune teller, and now we can spend Monday night with scary movies, leftover chili and passing out candy to the trick-or-treaters. How are you spending your Halloween?!

Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope this chili becomes a family favorite for y'all just like it has for us. xo

Saturday Sweater Weather

Saturday, October 29, 2016

| Pink Sweater (Looks so cute untied, on sale for $12 + comes in 7 colors!) | Slightly Distressed High Waist Jeans (Hello, the perfect pair to suck in that holiday belly!) | Bralette

Tennessee has the craziest weather y'all. Every morning, it's the perfect Fall day and I'm so happy. Come noon and I'm sweating my booty off & down to a tank and shorts. Please tell me I'm not the only one?! It seriously hasn't even felt like October/Fall/Halloween and it makes me so sad!

This is our first weekend since August that we don't have a wedding event to attend. Three of my bridesmaids got married/are getting married this year, plus three other couples and us.. so my brain has been in full bride mode. Three weeks from today I will be walking down that aisle! AHH

In an attempt to usher in the cold weather & get in the holiday spirit, I've rounded up some of my favorite sweaters this season (most are under $30!). I'm snuggled up on the couch watching Hocus Pocus and drinking lots of coffee. What are your Saturday plans?!

Love is in the Air Bridesmaid Luncheon

Wednesday, October 12, 2016

I love being engaged, but in all honesty I'm ready to walk down that aisle y'all. I swear I've never made as many decisions as I have this year.  Another part of being engaged that has been difficult is not planning all the parties leading up to the Big Day. There is little I love more than planning a themed party, I live for it. Not to say that everyone who has threw me a shower hasn't done the most fabulous job, I was just sad I couldn't be along side helping them.

When I started to think of my Bridesmaid Luncheon, I knew I wanted to do something extra special because if you ask me I have some extra special bridesmaids.

First, you're probably wondering why we hosted the bridesmaid's luncheon almost two months before the wedding. This year has been busy, busy. Add in that two of my bridesmaids work in the wedding industry and cross out over half of the weekends in the year. Finding a weekend that worked for almost all my bridesmaids' schedule (sadly, we still were missing one bridesmaid!) was so difficult. We had to do it early or not at all.

The Location.
I'm so, so lucky we had the perfect location to celebrate this little weekend. My stepdad's family owns the sweetest, retired Bed & Breakfast in Monteagle, TN. If you're not familiar with East Tennessee, it's a small mountain town about 30 minutes from where we live in Chattanooga. My mom and step dad were married in the B&B a few years ago, so I was so excited to incorporate it into my wedding as well. It was so fun having all the ladies + my grandmas, mom & grandpa (he snuck in!) in the same house.

The Theme.
Like any great party, it needed a good theme. I was able to combine two of my favorite things, butterflies & hot air balloons, to create a romantic, girly and brunch-worthy theme.
Love is in the Air.
I want to revisit this theme later, to share how I made everything including the floating hot air balloon floral arrangements. If you need instructions before I blog about it, please feel free to email me!

The Food.
I wanted light, fruity food and a delicious sangria. We decided on three salads: a blueberry, lemon arugula and quinoa salad, a roasted vegetable and pesto cold tortellini salad and a watermelon, feta and mint cucumber salad. We also had two quiches, hawaiian ham sliders, a fig and goat cheese balsamic flatbread and a pesto, feta and arugula flatbread. We paired everything with the most delicious (& easy) peach strawberry sangria!
My mom and I looked for caters that fit our vision, but we ultimately decided just to prepare everything ourselves. The sangria and ham sliders came from my Pinterest, but most of the other recipes we created on our own.
For dessert we had the most gorgeous butterfly cake I've ever seen in my life. Cutting into it made me want to cry!! The only reason I decided to finally cut it was because I was dying to try it. It was a chocolate cake with a mint buttercream filling. If you live in Chattanooga, you must try Cakes by Ashley. This isn't sponsored, I just love her cakes.

One of my favorite parts of the whole shower was our Make Your Own Flower Crown bar. It was such a fun activity and it was so amazing seeing each girl's personality shine through her creation. Plus, it made for the best pictures afterwards.

Make Your Own Flower Crown Bar:
You need:
--An assortment of flowers (fresh or fake), we had about 6-7 different bouquets in vases of water on a table or bar cart.
--Floral Wire
--Wire Cutters
--Floral Tape
--Any additional accessories, I loved the butterflies in addition to the flowers!

Measure your head with the wire, leave a few additional inches to wrap it closed. Before closing it off into a halo, take your assortment of flowers (be sure to leave 3-4 inches of the stem to attach it to the wire) and place it on your floral wire. Wrap floral tape around the stem and press to seal. Repeat until you have all flowers attached. Take the end of the two wires and twist to create a halo!

The whole weekend was incredible, I wish it would have never ended! From the center pieces to the balloons and flowers, I can't believe how great everything came together. I cannot thank my mom, grandma and grandma Nancy enough for helping make my dream luncheon come true.
We wrapped up the evening with Roll your own Sushi, which was a blast!

If you're planning a shower, luncheon or birthday party and need more details about anything --please feel free to email me! RileyBrahm@Gmail.com

October Lately

Tuesday, October 11, 2016

I've really been slacking on the life style blogging lately, huh?

I mean here I am wanting to be your go-to guide to a chic, trendy, some what healthy, always happy, budget friendly, do it all, never say no life yet I am juggling so much I can't keep up.

I'm about one month out from walking down the aisle, I've helped two of my very best friends tie the knot this year, we've attended 3 additional, fabulous weddings, I've started a new job, I'm a maid of honor for another best friend, started a new job, almost moved, almost moved again, and lived my normal life caring for Babe, our home and two little fur balls on top of trying to cook every meal and work out #SheddingForTheWedding. It's been a very, very blessed year.

Seriously, I've always knew 23 was my year. It's my golden year (I was born on the 23rd of October) and my entire life I knew it would be special. Actually, in the grand ole Riley scheme of things I pictured myself getting engaged when I was 23 and married at 25 --a two year engagement, I would literally die now that I know how crazy being engaged is!

I don't like putting you, this, on the back burner but sometimes in life it makes the most sense.

I'm hoping to do less wayyy less of that from now on. I try my hardest to go by the rule: treat it like a business, and it will become a business. I love to post Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday by 9 am but every once in a while I will need to skip a day. I'm so sorry, I will try my hardest for you guys.

If I do miss a day here or there, you can most likely find me daily on Snapchat (@RileyBrahm). In fact, I am about to start a #YesPlease Snap Series to share snippet videos of recipes, beauty tutorials, DIY and more. Sneak a peek into my life on Instagram (@YesPleaseDaily), too!

Thanks for being so patient and supportive of me! You'll never know how much it means. Be sure to check back tomorrow, I'll be sharing our Bridesmaid Luncheon and why I ditched the traditional day before the wedding route for a fun, bed & breakfast weekend.  I hope y'all are enjoying Fall as much as I am, thanks for stopping by. XO
