Date Night Jewel

Friday, October 30, 2015

Happy Halloweve! Today I'm sharing a cozy yet elegant look. The jewel tones are perfect for upcoming holidays and a small touch of fur adds that little something extra.

I pulled together this cozy and easy outfit for our date night earlier this week. Someone the other day told me date nights are boring in the Fall and I completely disagree! Even though it's starting to cool down, you can still bundle up outside around a fire. You can go see a movie, head to a pumpkin patch or check out your local farmer's market. Another date night that babe & I love is making pizzas at our house! We take the easy route and buy all the ingredients pre made and just throw them in the oven! Rent a movie and grab a bottle of wine, it's the perfect night.

This tunic came home with me because it's 50% off and who can resist a sale right?! I kept seeing it hanging in my closet and for some reason I wanted to return it.. I don't know why. All my friends kept oohhig & ahhing over it and it's SO soft, but something in me kept saying I didn't need it. Well I was wrong. I decided to dress it up a few different ways and OMG I'm in love. I didn't want to take it off. I honestly might have to order one of the other two colors, I'm that obsessed. I'm going to be styling it again very soon to show you more ways to wear it, it looks so cute alone with OTK boots, under an oversized sweater with leggings or tucked into a skater skirt. I loved how cozy and warm I was when I wore this to the movies because I always get so cold.

I have been looking for a bucket bag for at least a year now. I don't know why I was so picky about it, it's just a bag. I saw many that I loved but couldn't bring myself to buy one. I'm so happy I didn't skip over this bag like the others, it's p e r f e c t! First, it's under $70. The vegan leather feels like butter and it comes in 6 gorgeous colors. Honestly I didn't think it could get better but then I realized it came with this adorable matching pouch! It holds everything in your bag for easy access or doubles as a fun clutch. What more could you ask for?!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday & Halloween weekend!

Happy Halloween: Cat Burglars & 'Faux-Nuts'

Thursday, October 29, 2015

Ok so everyday I get on here and talk about how much I love Fall and Halloween and Thanksgiving and basically everything that revolves around yummy, yummy food. The one thing I hate about this time of year is the calories. Every food this time of year is so heavy and makes you feel blaaah. Today I'm sharing my 5 ingredient solution to this problem & (in part two of this kinda long post) I'm sharing my last minute Halloween costume!

SO, technically you can make these 'faux-nuts' aka donuts with just two ingredients. If you don't have a donut pan, you can literally use the batter to make a n y t h i n g (cupcakes, muffins, cakes, cookies, etc.). If you want them to be extra special, I'm including a two ingredient recipe for a glaze and topping these babies with sprinkles for a grand total of 5 INGREDIENTS! Let's go.

What you need.. 1 box of cake mix (if you don't want chocolate you can use spiced cake mix for the most delicious Fall flavor!), 1 can of pumpkin puree (found on the baking aisle), 1-2 cups of powdered sugar, about a half a cup of milk and sprinkles. That's it. No eggs, oil, water etc. don't worry that the cake mix box is saying you need it, I promise you don't.

Preheat your oven according to the box, for mine I set my oven to 350 degrees.

In a mixing bowl combine cake mix and pumpkin puree.. I repeat do not add anything else to the batter (like eggs or oil!) unless it's chocolate chips or walnuts or maybe something else yummy like that. Mix until it's well blended.

Next I place all the batter in a ziplock baggie, I cut the corner of the baggie to create my own 'DIY Piping bag' *this works so well for icing cupcakes too!. I then fill the donut molds. This step is completely optional and think it's probably unnecessary unless you have a small mold like this donut one. Place in the oven and bake until firm to touch. (Around 10 minutes for the donut mold, you can also do the old 'stick a fork in it' trick).

While the donuts are baking you can start on the glaze. Pour your powdered sugar into a small mixing bowl, add one spoonful of milk into the bowl and stir. Add milk by the spoonful until your glaze is thick and all sugar is dissolved.

Once your donuts are finished baking, let them cool. Remove from pan and pour on drizzle the icing on to the donuts. Top with sprinkles (I grabbed these Halloween sprinkles in the dollar section of Target). Enjoy!

Now that your yummy, tiny 'faux-nuts' are finished, we can move onto the last minute costume! I originally pulled the ultimate lazy girl Halloween move: leopard pj's & cat ears, Hey, there is nothing wrong with that costume but I decided to jazz it up just a tad! I added a bandit mask (an old tee shirt I cut up) and a stripe shirt to become the sneakiest cat burglar in town! Chocolate Faux-Nuts
Makes 24-36 depending on your pan

1 Box of Cake Mix (Chocolate or Spiced)
1 Can of Pumpkin Puree
1 Cup of Powdered Sugar
1/2 Cup of Milk

For Cake:
1. Preheat oven according to box
2. Mix cake mix and pumpkin puree together (no eggs, oil, water or anything else needed)
3. Place into mold of your choice (donut, muffin, cake, onto a cookie sheet for cookies, etc)
4. Bake for 10-14 minutes depending on your mold (cake should be firm to touch, if you stick a fork in it & it should come out clean)
5. Let cool before icing

For Icing:
1. Add powdered sugar into a small mixing bowl
2. Stir in milk, one spoonful at a time until it becomes an icing like consistency
3. Spoon over the donuts & top with sprinkles

If you make 36 mini donuts or cookies out of this batter (minus the icing) each one is only 49 calories. You can cure your sweet tooth and impress everyone by your baking skills! Don't worry I won't tell anyone it's only a few ingredients. :) What are everyone's plans for Halloween?! I hope y'all have a great Thursday it's still so rainy here.

Rainy Days at the (not so) Pumpkin Patch

Tuesday, October 27, 2015

Embracing Noah's Ark 2.0 and breaking out my favorite rainboots. This Fall outfit is as cozy as it is cute. When I asked to go the pumpkin patch, this was not what I was expecting.. but how amaze is the mini Chattanooga Walking Bridge?! (Also, Babe took these photos and I'm so impressed by how they turned out!)

Babe can't work when it's raining, so we've had a lot of free time together this week. Blessing in disguise! He is so used to being at work, he gets antsy at home and disrupts my weekly schedule! I still love being able to spend the extra time with him though & since we have yet to carve pumpkins this year I asked him to go to the Pumpkin Patch. Little did I know growing up on the mountain that 'Pumpkin Patch' was completely different from a lot where you buy pumpkins.. it's just a playground. A very neat playground though & now I'm super jealous of his childhood! If you have kids in Chattanooga I highly recommend checking this one out (when it's not so rainy!). There was something fun about exploring this playground on a foggy day & there were so many pretty leaves everywhere! Still no pumpkins carved though.. maybe tomorrow?
My rainy day uniform is pretty consistent.. Hunter rainboots, a hat and a raincoat. My raincoat often changes depending on the occasion.. if I'm out running errands I grab my NorthFace rain jacket. It works so well and actually makes my leggings + oversized tee combo look a little more put together. If I'm headed somewhere that I want to look cute or I have a great outfit on, I reach for this hooded utility jacket. I love that it still protects me from the rain but keeps my outfit looking sassy.
When I bought this top I started getting anxious. It didn't follow my rules! I had only thought of one way to wear it (with leggings.. my go-to move when shopping. Leggings = EVERYTHING) but then I realized this top actually was so versatile and now I've already worn it twice. SCORE.  If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen this top paired with this suede, scalloped skirt. I'm obsessed with the combo and it was perfect for exploring Asheville. It's so soft and cozy, a necessity for Fall. I'm so happy I purchased this top because I've already thought of about 5 more different ways to wear it, so no buyer's remorse here! --& Really is there anything better than plaid AND peplum!?

What's your rainy day uniform? I wish it could be pajamas and a good book every rainy day!

| Distressed Jeans [℅] | Plaid Peplum Top | Utility Jacket (I love this vest version, too!) | Hunter Rainboots | Grey Hat | RayBan Aviators *On Sale & Under $100! 'X' Ring | Grey Crossbody Bag *Can you believe this is under $60?! I'm obsessed & it holds so much.

ps. Tory Burch private sale ended but there are so many great things still up to 60% off here. Kate Spade is currently having a 'surprise' sale aka empty out your entire bank account here. For a full round up of sales, my favorite picks & the best designer dupes head to Sales, Steals and Deals.

Sometimes I rock Mondays & deserve a huge gold stars, some days I need three naps, four cups of coffee and an extra large glass of wine by 5 o'clock. Yesterday was one of those days. It was cold and rainy, I had missed the puppy snuggles and Babe didn't have work.. after spending most of the morning catching up on missed DVR, I did accomplish a grocery store run. I have so many cute Fall looks to share with you guys but a forecast of rain, rain and more rain has that on the back burner. Wah. Instead I decided to share my life currently.

Currently coveting..
I am so happy cool weather is joining the party down here in Tennessee, if you're lucky enough to live somewhere that actually allows appropriate 'Fall' outfits, I envy you. I am scoping out which coats I'm going to invest in this year. First I'm loving a very easy, drape-y, 'wrap coat'. I want something that looks effortless yet chic. I found two steals under $60 + one that is a classic investment that lasts years.

Also on my wish list is a fun color coat. J.Crew's coats are to blame for this one. I love their hot pinks and pale blues, plus the quality of their coats is second to none. I pulled three more colorful options for you as well (the first one is pink, suede & under $75!!).

Currently Pinning..
I spend a lot of free time, in between time & should-probably-be-sleeping-not-scrolling time on Pinterest (--come follow me!). I know it's not even Halloween yet but I'm hosting both my family & RJ's family at our house for Thanksgiving so I'm already pinning new recipes! On the menu so far.. mini desserts! I also am working on a few new DIY projects (these are a little more intense than my previous cardboard headboard and no sew pillows, these actually require a drill, yikes!)

Currently Burning..
I am in love with Fall scents like warm vanilla cinnamon & pumpkin soufflĂ©. They both smell so sweet and warm. It reminds me of a mix of Grandma's baking and heaven. I usually gravitate towards Bed, Bath & Beyond for my holiday candles but I love the adorable jars these candles come in. After you're done burning them you can use them around your house! You can place a votive in them, turn them into a vase, hold jewelry or more.
