Hairy Secrets

Sharing one of my hairiest but most favorite secrets ever. I have gone back and forth about this post for so long. I always felt like sharing my extensions with you guys was so personal but I love, love, love my them so much I couldn't keep it a secret any longer!

I've done micro-bead extensions, tape in extensions and clip in extensions and I have to say clip in are my favorite. At first I thought it would be tedious to clip in and out but once you get the hang of it, it only takes about 5 minutes to get them on! I purchased mine at Sally's Beauty Supply. They are real human hair, they can be washed, blown dry, curled, straightened and even colored. [As far as washing them goes, I usually wash them about three times a month when I feel like a lot of hairspray and product has been built up on them but you can wash them more/less really just your preference!]

So this is my hair air dried. I use It's a 10 Leave in Conditioner as soon as I get out of the shower. I was worried about the price when I first purchased it but it's seriously my favorite. It's lasted about 5+ months already and once you get to the end of the bottle you can add a little water and extend it's life.

If I let my hair air dry, it turns out pretty curly. I straighten my hair to get it ready for the extensions, if your hair is straight or wavy you can skip this step! I don't worry about it being perfectly straight because I will finish styling it after all the pieces are in. If I'm thinking ahead aka not running late I will wash and dry my hair straight ahead of time (or the night before), my hair always curls better a little dirty.  Obviously Doodle is very bored at this point ^.

I use a Wet Brush 100% of the time even if I'm not wearing my extensions. It is so great at getting tangles out and doesn't break your hair. I use it and brush all my extensions out before I start to clip them in. Doodle is getting more excited at this point ^, sometimes I clip the extensions on her but that's just because I'm a crazy Dog Mom..

Time for the fun part! Take the top two thirds of your hair and clip it up. Next, grab two of the 3 clip sections. [I saw Julie, my hair stylist at STYLEbar Chattanooga this weekend and she told me I can braid the bottom layer of my hair and bobby pin it up if I'm having trouble blending it into my extensions because my hair is still on the shorter side. I will try this soon and let you guys know how it works!]

Find the spot by your hairline about two inches back from your ear and clip the first clip. continue until all three are secure. Do the same on the opposite side.

Let another third of your hair down from your clip and repeat the steps above with your other two "3 clip" sets. Mine overlap a little bit but it's no biggie! :)

Now all you should have left is four "1 clip" pieces. I put two on each side of my part. I make sure they are as close to the hair line as possible but still have enough hair to cover them. I also keep them towards the front of my head by my face.

Yay! You are done, it's seriously so easy and I've had these extensions for over two years. They last forever! I am pretty cautious about the products I use on them. I think it's important to treat them just like you would your own hair! After they are in you can obviously leave them wavy, I often braid mine or you can curl them!

I use a 2 inch curling wand and wrap the bottoms around the barrel away from my face. On the top layer of my hair I wrap it towards my hair to add volume. I like my hair to look more on the messy side versus the neat side. I don't curl every piece but if you like a perfect wave I would section your hair off and curl.

I finish with hairspray, I'm currently using Big Sexy Hair. I love the hold but my hair is still movable.

Another product I love for volume is Davines Texturizing Dust. I love the products at STYLEbar Chattanooga, they smell amazing and make your hair so soft. You can call to schedule an appointment if you're in the Chattanooga area or stop in anytime! My hair has never been in better condition since I started going to Julie at the STYLEbar.
